Episode 214: ”21 in the 21st”

This week on 2Legs, we were joined by longtime friend and follower of the show, Kyle Hand who had a great suggestion for a show he told us about at the NY Fest earlier this year.  
This week we picked our favourite 21 Paul songs from the 21st Century to create a fictional double LP. All albums standard/covers were fair game.
The albums we pulled from were Driving Rain (2001), Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (2005), Memory Almost Full (2007), Electric Arguments (2008), Kisses On The Bottom (2012), NEW (2013), Egypt Station (2018) and lastly McCartney III (2020).
This was a fun topic and we thank Kyle for the idea! What are your fav 21 songs from the 21st Century?

Episode 213: ”The Paul McCartney Special” (1986) (Review)

A new month, and a brand new show to kick off July 2023! We had a fun time with 'This One' (pun intended!). This time we dived into the now obsolete and forgotten BBC Documentary titled The Paul McCartney Special.
Originally recorded in July of 1986 and broadcast in August 1986 on the BBC and released on Home Video (1987). It was presented and hosted by Richard Skinner of the BBC. It was a very important documentary at the time because you saw for the first time pro shot footage of some really rare early Wings footage. ('Wild Life' etc). It has since been superseded by other McCartney home video releases notably the inclusion of the "Bruce McMouse" Film in the Wings Live 71-73 Box. (Big Barn Box). As fas the interview itself, it kind of jumps all over Paul's career up to that time. It was mainly used as a promotional tool for the then forthcoming LP Press To Play. The Wings period is discussed but minimally, and is erratic.
We did stream an edited YouTube version for this episode and the user had to obscure some of the images (but oddly not the sound) in order to clear copyright. This and some really poor timed ads added to the entertainment.

Bonus Episode! (With Joan Borreli) (Paul & Conan Talk/UK Trip!)

A surprise Bonus Episode! We were happy again to have Ms. Joan Borelli back on the show. Joan was with us last year when she went to the first GOT BACK show. Joan was fortunate enough to be one of the lucky attendees to the recent Paul discussion with Conan O'Brien for the launch of the "Eyes of the Storm" book. Her luck does not run out there! She then bought a copy of the book which was SIGNED BY PAUL. Only 175 and available from the UK only. She bought the book, made the trek to London to obtain in.
Then cashing in, she attended a "Evolver 63" presentation by Mark Lewisohn. As if that wasn't enough she then hiked it up to Liverpool, stayed overnight in the Hard Day's Night Hotel, attended a Paul Tribute Show at the Cavern on his Birthday, and visited all 4 Beatles childhood homes, before heading back to London to return home. Wow. Is all we can say! Congratulations Joan and thank you for sharing this incredible experience with us!

We celebrate Paul's 81st Birthday with a deep discussion on his first solo single 'Another Day' b/w 'Oh Woman, Oh Why'. And joining us once again is our friend and colleague Luca Perasi.

Episode 211: ”The 7” Singles Box Review” (Finally)

Finally got around to it folks. Sorry about the wait. We review the 7" Singles Box, show a few favs from it and discuss the new book "In The Eyes of the Storm", Paul's appearance with Conan O'Brien (which had real time updates as Paul was on with Conan in NYC while we were recording), as well as a few minutes on the "new" Beatles single (that DOESN'T include AI!) Happy Weekend All :)

Episode 210: Chris Welch

We were honored this week to have the celebrated journalist and author Mr. Chris Welch join us!
Anyone who has followed Popular Music especially in the 1960s and 1970s will no doubt know this man who has been a staple of the Music Journalism scene since the 1960s. He has written over 40 books and thousands of articles.
He first joined the British weekly music magazine Melody Maker in 1964, staying on until 1979. Chris has interviewed, hung with and traveled with every major rock act from the 1960s and 70s, including The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Spencer Davis Group, and MANY more and later notably YES in the 70s and also Wings.
So this was a homerun for us! Of Chris' many published works, he wrote the The Definitive Biography on Paul which was published in 1974. He later penned Close To The Edge: "The Story of YES published first in 1999, with a revision in 2003.
He recently published a new book on the life of ELP Keyboardist Keith Emerson.
We could have talked for hours about Chris' experiences. The man has lived quite the life and we are so thankful for the time he gave us! Thank you so very much Chris!

Episode 209: ”Mal Evans” (With Ken Womack)

We're back with another author this week!
We were happy to have Ken Womack back on 2Legs this week! Ken needs no introduction. Anyone who is up to date on Beatles-related literature over the past 15 years knows this mans credentials. He wrote the authoritative biographies on George Martin, Solid State (Abbey Road), John Lennon 1980, All Things Must Pass Away among many others. (The Cambridge Companion to The Beatles, being Andy's personal favorite). He's also host of the Podcast "Everything Fab Four."
He is a Professor of Popular Music at Monmouth University (NJ). This week Ken gives us some insight into the life of Beatles roadie and loyal assistant Mal Evans. Mal worked with the Beatles from the Cavern days until and after the end, until his untimely passing in 1976.
Ken's book on Mal's life "Living The Beatles Legend: The Untold Story of Mal Evans" will be published in November by Dey Street Books. It will be one of the most celebrated books to be added to the Beatles literary canon. We discuss Mal's relationships with all 4 Beatles and importantly what became of Mal post-breakup.
