Episode 220: ”As Good As The Beatles” (Part 1)
Saturday Sep 09, 2023
Saturday Sep 09, 2023
It's been a minute but we're back with a new show!
Just Tom and Andy this week after a very busy August (Fest, and 3 stellar author interviews) we kept this one light and simple.
We're going to do a 3 part show where we pick 15 songs from each era of McCartney's career that we think equal Beatle level compositions.
This month we focus on the 1970s. Future episodes will be 80s/90s and 00s/10s.
Hope you are all well and thanks for sticking with us!
We have plenty lined up for the rest of the year!

Episode 219: ”You Never Give Me Your Money” (Peter Doggett)
Saturday Aug 26, 2023
Saturday Aug 26, 2023
We were honoured to have the esteemed author and journalist Mr. Peter Doggett join us for Episode 219! Peter penned the superb book You Never Give Me Your Money: The Beatles After The Breakup (initially subtitled The Battle for the Beatles Soul which was stupidly rejected by the publisher) in 2009.
It is the best piece of writing that focuses on the relationships all 4 Beatles had throughout the 70s, 80s and through the time of publishing. It is also the only book to keep the scope of research dialed into one focus: the lawsuits and the specific details of them. Percentages for each Beatle, contracts, Allen Klein - and the disovery of the "McCartney Override" all packed into this show!
We thank Peter for his time and if you have not checked this out go get it now:

Episode 218: ”The Songs He Was Singing” (John Blaney)
Saturday Aug 19, 2023
Saturday Aug 19, 2023
Fresh Off from the Fest (although this was recorded prior) we welcome back Author John Blaney on this week's episode. John is the author of the now 5 part series of books titled The Songs He Was Singing, which is a complete and chronological review of McCartney's Discography. Later this year he will be publishing Volume 5 which we discuss on the show. Volume 5 covers the period of years 2010-2019. Only 2 new albums of original material during this time frame (New & ES) but a ton of other releases (RSD singles/Kisses/Pure McCartney) and the Archive Project began.
We were happy to have John back again and please support his book here which is scheduled for release on 20th October 2023.

Episode 217: ”1989” (Year in Review) with Madinger & Easter
Saturday Aug 12, 2023
Saturday Aug 12, 2023
We are very happy to have Chip Madinger & Mark Easter back again this year for another deep dive for a Year In Review show. Chip and Mark published the epic Eight Arms To Hold You book in 2000. It is the must own book for fans of the Beatles Solo music. See link below to purchase the 2018 revision on Chip's site. This time we chose 1989. A very productive and busy year for Paul that centered around the release of Flowers In The Dirt.
Was it a "comeback"? or just another record? A lot of people like to crap on Flowers these days but we still think it holds up although as you see our guests and hosts don't like every track! Our discussion also focuses on the heavy promotion Paul did at the time. We included 3 segments from various appearances throughout the year and Chip and Mark tell us in detail about the shows they saw on the World Tour that began in September of 1989.
These guys are truly the benchmark for this stuff and we are happy to present another episode for you. The history books will note 1989 as a big year for Paul and we agree.
Let us know your memories of this period and if you saw any of the concerts!
Thanks Chip and Mark!

Episode 216: ”In The World Tonight” (Review)
Saturday Jul 29, 2023
Saturday Jul 29, 2023
"Hey Hey" (a "most" memorable song on Pipes of Peace right?) Everyone!
We're back and we did another documentary watch/review this week. And a very emotional/heartwarming one. 1997's In The World Tonight was produced to showcase the making of the now iconic 25 year old LP Flaming Pie.
A real return to form for Paul, made in the homespun affair just like 1970's homemade McCartney debut. It also highlights what else Paul was up to during this period. Animated short films, classical composing, becoming knighted and naturally recording at home with Linda and family.
We see tremendous footage of Paul alone in the woods with a fire strumming his guitar, contemplating life. As well as golden clips of Paul working with Geoff Emerick, George Martin, Jeff Lynne, Steve Miller. Feeling the enthusiasm of the Beatles Anthology is evident watching Paul here.
Couple that with the fact this was the last time we saw/heard dear Linda on a Paul album makes it even that more special. This was originally broadcast in the USA on 16th May 1997 and on 18th May 1997 on ITV in the UK. The "Town Hall Meeting" was not part of the original broadcast and was added in for the home video release which came later in October 1997.
One of our favourite "in the making of" films he's done. What say you?

Episode 215: ”Paul & George” (Part 1 with Eoghan Lyng)
Saturday Jul 22, 2023
Saturday Jul 22, 2023
Another multi series deep dive! We did a multi part series previously on John and Paul with Antony Rotunno (Glass Onion Podcast).
We felt the time was right to tackle the next one and for it we enlisted the help of Author/Journalist Eoghan Lyng (George Harrison In The 1970s U2 on Track), to join us for this first installment on the somewhat frosty relationship Macca and George had between the period of January 1969 thru the Spring of 1975. We present a timeline of events where the two paths traded barbs in the press (which wasn't much), but notably business pertaining to Apple, Paul and Linda appearing at one of the Dark Horse Tour's.
We also have a few clips in this one. Not directly related to Macca but we felt the inclusion of the rare late 1974 radio interview between John Lennon and George was worthy of inclusion as it was likely the last time those two conversed. As well as some nice footage of Paul and George signing the dissolution papers in December 1974.
We will definitely continue this series at some point and we thank Eoghan for his time and knowledge (and impersonations!)
